Hey, Iโm Amanda!
My work explores the universal themes of hope, new beginnings, and our interconnectedness through the lens of nature. Using nature as a symbol of spirituality, I examine the intricate ways in which life, growth, and transformation are woven together.
As I transition from an established career to being a full-time artist, I am working on a series of mixed-media paintings that reflect my desire to relinquish fear and embrace lifeโs infinite possibilities. This body of work is both a personal exploration and a visual manifestation of my journey toward embracing change.
In my paintings, I use collage and sewing patterns to create abstracted landscapes that symbolize the patterns and โfabricsโ that make up our lives. Just as fabric is stitched together to form something whole, we, too, are stitched together in our shared humanity. Layers of resin and hyper realistic oil paintingโsuch as sparrows on various planesโcreate depth, light, and shadow. The sparrow, often depicted as a fleeting symbol of hope, joy, and self-worth, is a recurring motif in my work. It represents the courage to rise, to find freedom, and to celebrate the beauty of life in all its fragility.
To emphasize the preciousness of life, I introduce 24K gold leafing into my pieces. Gold, with its timeless luminosity, serves as a symbol of the value of nature, our moments of joy, and the fragile yet enduring beauty of the world around us. Each work is a meditation on how light and hope are intertwined with the natural world, and how they can illuminate even the darkest of times.
Alongside my paintings, I also create functional ceramics. For me, making art that can be experienced tactilelyโthrough the daily rituals of coffee or tea timeโbrings a layer of intimacy to my practice. By creating functional pieces, I hope to bring small moments of joy and reflection into peopleโs lives, turning everyday objects into reminders of beauty, comfort, and connection.
